The BB guns usually shoot the typically spherical projectiles, however some of the projectiles can actually be pointed. The BB gun models which use the pointed projectiles are used for hunting birds.
The Modern day BB guns have a design which features a smoothbore barrel, with a really good bore diameter and a caliber of 4.5 mm or 0.177 inches. The modern BB gun models typically use BBs made of steel which are usually plated with copper or zinc, this helps the BBs to avoid getting corroded. They usually have a size between 0.171 to 0.173 inches or 4.34 to 4.39 mm.
Some of the BB gun models are designed to use the lead balls that had a larger diameter and can also be used in BB rifles.
